Gimmi Olsen has a general and broad theological research interest, but has a special interest and focus on practical theology and church research. Church research examines, among other things, the religious and ecclesiastical image in Greenland, which religious denominations and spiritual-ideological activities are present, how the country's population is distributed among them and how these different religious or ideological communities relate to each other. Of particular interest are various research topics concerning the Greenlandic church, of which almost 95% of the country's population is registered as members.
Gimmi Olsen is currently in his PhD engaged in a research project which examines the Greenlandic Church's role as a social actor in the welfare society. With special focus on how the church actually relates to or wants to relate to the most prominent social problems in society, as well as what expectations there are for the church in this matter.
