Portrait of research project
In Greenland, the media is important for our democracy.
The media connects our scattered population - and for the same reason, our media is often the subject of lively debate.
The research project "Tusagassiuutit 2018" wants to contribute to this debate.
By analysing all news reports in the national media on selected days, we will contribute knowledge to this debate.
In this sense, we can help in explaining who make themselves heard in the media and who does not - what becomes news, and what does not.
As part of "Tusagassiuutit 2018", we will also map the media landscape in Greenland: what media exists, how big are they, their finances, who owns them etc.
All data from the project will be stored in a data bank - which later can be used by graduate- and PhD students. Our project will naturally also be used in the normal teaching as part of the research based journalist programme at Ilisimatusarfik.
We will repeat the analysis every two years - in order to show how the Greenlandic media structure and the Greenlandic media content evolve.
The results of our research will be published in an easy-to-read report in Greenlandic and Danish - and the first report will be published already in the Fall of 2018.
