Constitution Day about Greenland’s constitutional position, the IUD case & legal protections
Stenbroens Jurister's Constitution Day event on 5 June will this year focus on Greenland’s constitutional position, the IUD case and legal protections in Greenland and Denmark.
In 2023, Stenbroens Jurister initiated a study into the need for legal protections for particularly vulnerable Inuit living in Denmark. The study has demonstrated the need for legal protections for particularly the vulnerable, but also the necessity of addressing other structural and legal issues related to the Inuit-community living in both Denmark and Greenland, which is a result of their shared colonial past.
During this year’s Constitution Day event you can meet:
- Maja Løvbjerg Hansen, lawyer and CEO of Stenbroens Jurister
- Sune Klinge, associate professor in constitutional law
- Naja Lyberth, representative from the IUD case taskforce
- Mads Krøger Pramming, human rights lawyer
- Andrew Hjuler Crichton, general secretary of the Danish Bar Association
- Sina Parbst Frederiksen, lawyer at Stenbroens Jurister
The event will consist of presentations about Greenland’s constitutional position, Stenbroens Jurister’s efforts to offer judicial guidance to particularly vulnerable Inuit in Denmark, experiences from the IUD taskforce, the process of the lawsuit against the Danish state for violations of human rights, and the bar association’s continued efforts with legal protections in Greenland.
The event is held at Danske Advokater in Copenhagen, and will be live-streamed in Ilisimatusarfik's canteen 5 June 2024 from 10.00 - 13.00 (Greenlandic time). Naja Lyberth’s presentation will also be in Ilisimatusarfik's canteen.
Lunch will be served at 13.00 after the event for those who participate from Ilisimatusarfik.
The event will primarily take place in Danish. However, there will be simultaneous translation into Greenlandic for those who participate physically in the canteen at Ilisimatusarfik - and it will be possible to ask questions physically and digitally in Greenlandic, which will be interpreted.
If you wish to participate, but cannot attend either physically in Copenhagen or at Ilisimatusarfik, then you can register to participate online via this link.
