As the country's highest educational institution, Ilisimatusarfik will neither accept nor tolerate sexually abusive behavior or sexual harassment. This kind of behavior is against the policy that Ilisimatusarfik pursues towards its employees, students and partners inside and outside the institution.
"As a university, we have a great responsibility when we send our students on internships or, for that matter, our employees on assignments in other institutions domestically and abroad. Therefore, we always expect that students and staff are met with the same good behavior, and where respect for another human being is highly valued at all times", rector Gitte Adler Reimer says.
The current debate about sexual violation and sexual harassment has not missed the country's highest educational institution. For example, Ilisimatusarfik has been approached by Tusagassiuinermi Sulisut Peqatigiiffiat (The Media Association in Greenland), which by a quick survey have discovered that past and present interns have often been subjected to sexual harassment.
"As an institution, in the future we will ask our students and staff to report all forms of offensive behavior to which they are exposed. Offensive behavior can have serious consequences for some of us, and no one should have to put up with that kind of behavior".
Rector Gitte Adler Reimer has informed all institutes and departments at Ilisimatusarfik that all students who are going to work or study in other locations are thoroughly informed about what to do if they encounter abusive behavior or sexual harassment - and that from now on, these kinds of problems will also be included in student evaluations.
"Ilisimatusarfik is a university where manners are and should be characterized by courtesy, mutual respect, appreciation and recognition. We therefore expect that these good manners also exist in other institutions - so that a country that lacks educated labor can raise its goals as best as possible".
