Eulogy

At Ilisimatusarfik, we commemorate Jakob Janussen, who recently passed away.

On behalf of Ilisimatusarfik, we say goodbye to a remarkable personality, Jakob Janussen, whose life and work have left deep traces in the history and development of Greenland.

Jakob Janussen left us recently, and his passing leaves a huge void in our society.

Throughout his long career, Jakob Janussen has held leading positions in both the former Home Rule and later the Self-Government. He was chairman of the Self-Government Commission and headed the secretariat of the Greenlandic-Danish Self-Government Commission. His skill and dedication have been crucial to the development of Greenland as an independent political entity.

Jakob Janussen was not only a civil servant, but also a recognized political commentator. He has authored numerous articles and books in which his sharp analyses and views on Greenland's development shine through - all of which have made valuable contributions to the debate on Greenland's future.

In recognition of his remarkable contribution to society, Jakob Janussen was awarded an honorary doctorate at Ilisimatusarfik in 2017. This is a tribute to his academic and intellectual integrity.

But Jakob Janussen was also a loving family man and societal figure. He leaves behind a wife, children and grandchildren who share the grief of his passing. His legacy as both an outstanding professional and a devoted family man will be remembered and cherished by us all.

Jakob Janussen's dedication to Greenland and his invaluable contribution to our society will not be forgotten. His thoughts and influence will continue to shape our path forward.
