Millions to Arctic research
Good news for researchers interested in the Arctic: Independent Research Fund Denmark has just published a new call for thematic funding for Arctic research projects
Good news for researchers interested in the Arctic: Independent Research Fund Denmark has just published a new call for thematic funding for Arctic research projects - and there is a total of DKK 46.5 million in the pool.
Each research project can apply for up to 5 million DKK (excluding overhead), and the application deadline is 3 September 2025.
Projects can start no earlier than 1 March 2026 and no later than 1 December 2026.
The overall aim is to contribute to sustainable development in the Arctic through increased understanding of climate change and its impacts - on biodiversity, ecosystems, cultural heritage and living conditions.
At the same time, there is a strong focus on community and indigenous peoples' involvement and capacity building.
This is a broad program and applications can be submitted within - and across - all main academic areas.
But there are also some specific requirements you need to be aware of as an applicant:
- Your application must include at least one PhD student or postdoc - as part of strengthening research capacity.
- You must collaborate with researchers from at least two different research institutions.
- You must describe in an appendix how the project will contribute to capacity building through the involvement of local people and / or indigenous peoples.
- You must also explain how your project specifically addresses the call's theme of strengthening Arctic research - and how it meets the theme-specific requirements.
Does this sound like something for you - or your colleagues?
