12 new students ready for adventure in SILA bachelor in biology
The 12 new SILA bachelor in biology students have now officially started
The 12 new SILA bachelor in biology students have now officially started - and we could almost feel the excitement in the air as they walked through the door of Pikialaarfik, a building built specifically for natural science education, for the first time.
Precisely because the excitement is high, the purpose of the students' first day was to create a calm and safe first encounter with SILA - an education where mental and physical health is central.
Therefore, there were no big speeches, no expectations or demands. The students had the opportunity to meet each other and their future lecturers in small groups, after which there was a joint lunch with Greenlandic food.
Although the students are eager to learn the theories of biology and get out into nature, this first year has been given a very special introductory week before we get started with the theories and fieldwork.
In their first week, the students have a workshop focusing on Inuit knowledge and values, where the students learn to listen to themselves and create a solid inner foundation for the learning that the next three years will bring.
The program is something special
Not only do our new students get to dive into the books and learn about the many theories of biology, they also get to experience the Arctic landscapes and all the life that thrives here with their own eyes. From exciting fieldwork in the wild to top-level laboratory research, the SILA program combines the best of both worlds.
The new students are off to a great start and their commitment is already shining through. With the knowledge and experiences they gain here, they are on their way to a future full of possibilities.
Whether they want to immerse themselves in research, work in environmental management or perhaps teach others, they all have a strong foundation to make a difference - both in Greenland and internationally.
We are proud to welcome them and look forward to following their development.
They have an amazing journey ahead of them, which has only just begun!
