21 February 2025 was a special day at Ilisimatusarfik when Aviaq Fleisher defended her PhD project.
Her thesis is based on Greenlandic media development since the 1970s and sheds light on key aspects of contemporary television, media content and archiving in Greenland.
Aviaq Fleisher's PhD project consists of four articles, all of which delve into different dimensions of Greenlandic media.
Among other things, she analyzes the portrayal of the missionary Hans Egede in the media over a 50-year period, the collaboration between KNR-TV and Danmarks Radio, and the viewer's perspective on rebroadcasts from KNR's archives.
She also focuses on the local Tusaat tv-Aasiaat media archives and the legal framework for the preservation of the archive material.
With her in-depth and thorough approach, Aviaq Fleisher has contributed significantly to the understanding of Greenland's media history and discussed how the future of television and archiving in Greenland can be developed.
We congratulate Aviaq on this great achievement - and we look forward to following her further research work!
