On Friday, 14 February 2025, an inspiring workshop was held on SafeHarbour Greenland - an ambitious project that aims to reduce the number of children placed in out-of-home care in Greenland.
With one of the highest placement rates in the Nordic region, Greenland faces a challenge that not only affects the well-being of children and families, but also represents a significant financial burden on society.
SafeHarbour Greenland aims to change this reality by focusing on strengthening families and communities so that children can grow up in safe and stable homes.
The workshop was attended by former foster carers, professionals and researchers who have received support from the Arctic Research Bursary for the initial work on the project.
Knowledge, experiences and ideas were shared, all of which have in common that they contribute to a long-term, sustainable solution to prevent unnecessary placements.
The project has received great support and the workshop was an important step towards creating concrete solutions that can benefit children, families and society as a whole.
