A necessary book

Ilisimatusarfik has just published Aqqaluk Lynge's book Inuit Tumisiorlugit - On the Trails of the Inuit.

This is happening in connection with the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Knud Rasmussen's 5th Thule Expedition.

The book is a travelogue in which Aqqaluk Lynge and his traveling companion, the artist Jørn Mathiassen, follow in the footsteps of Knud Rasmussen, Arnarulunnguaq, and Qaavigarsuaq (Miteq) on their great sled journey from 1921 to 1924. The two traveled together in 1978 and met the same people that the Greenlanders had met long ago. The result was a travelogue with lyrical sequences and unique illustrations by Jørn Mathiassen.

Aqqaluk Lynge also writes about the history of Arctic cooperation, which he witnessed through his many years of involvement.

The book is easy to read and readily accessible. With this publication, Ilisimatusarfik hopes to increase awareness of the Arctic and that the book will appeal to a wide audience.
