Danish Realm research
About
Ilisimatusarfik has signed a cooperation agreement with Persorsaanermik Ilinniarfik, Fróðskaparsetur Føroya, VIA University College and UC SYD about Danish Realm research.
The goal is that we in the Danish Realm in the social and pedagogical field can learn from and with each other. We can each contribute with strengths and unique knowledge of the placement field in the three countries, which together can create strong development in the family and network placement field.
It is widely recognised that children who are placed in residential and / or foster care do significantly worse when they grow up - than children who have not been placed. Therefore, kinship and network care are areas where both Denmark, the Faroe Islands and Greenland need to develop current individual practices.
Both the Faroe Islands and Greenland have in the past had a tradition of raising children with relatives and network, rather than placing them in institutions or foster families unconnected to the child's family - and we can usefully build on and develop this knowledge and experience.
The Danish Realm research has as its focal point a research project entitled: "What can we all learn from Greenland and the Faroe Islands in the social and pedagogical field?" and will - in addition to articles and communication - also result in a textbook in all three languages for use in practice and in higher education.
