Steven Arnfjord's inaugural lecture

The inaugural lecture is based on a class analysis of the conditions, issues, and ways forward for the Greenlandic welfare society.
Why do we still need to talk about social classes? What is the problem with Marx? And how can egalitarian welfare be operationalized?
These are some of the questions that will be addressed, along with others concerning the relevance of social research in Arctic societies.
These questions - and many more - will be the focus when Steven Arnfjord gives his inaugural lecture as professor at Ilisimatusarfik.
Steven Arnfjord has been teaching and conducting research at Ilisimatusarfik for more than 15 years - and has now been awarded the title of professor after academic assessment and approval by the Academic Council.
He is a prominent voice in the Greenlandic public debate and has been behind groundbreaking research into social conditions, including the first nationwide census of homelessness in Greenland.
Based on his research, Steven will give a personal and socially critical view of social dynamics in Greenland in his inaugural lecture, and how we as a society can become better at listening to those who are rarely heard.
Everyone is welcome, and we look forward to marking this milestone with you.
