Morten Nornild is a senior lecturer on the law programme at Ilisimatusarfik. He is also employed full-time by the Danish Ombudsman in Greenland, where he has served as Head of Legal Affairs since 2019.

Morten has been involved in the Greenlandic law programme at Ilisimatusarfik right from the start. Between 2015 and 2018, he drafted the initial teaching materials and the curriculum in collaboration with the working group and advisory board at the time.

Morten is the programme coordinator for Legal History, Sociology of Law and Philosophy of Law, Family and Inheritance Law, and the Bachelor’s thesis on the Bachelor’s programme, as well as for Social and Children’s Law, the work placement programme and, finally, the Master’s thesis on the Master’s programme.

He teaches as a senior lecturer in Family and Inheritance Law, Children’s and Social Law, and also conducts research and teaches in the field of legal history. Previously, he has also published several articles on the Church and the law – often with a specific focus on the legal-historical perspective.

Morten is an experienced lecturer and has been teaching at Ilisimatusarfik since 2016 – even before the launch of a formal law degree programme in 2018. In addition, he has taught on the district judge training programme, at the Police Academy, the Social Pedagogy Seminar, the Management Academy and on countless courses for case workers in housing associations, local authorities and the National Church, amongst others.

Morten also has extensive experience on councils and committees, including, in particular, two terms on the Greenlandic Children’s Council, the Housing Appeals Board, the Press Council and the Government’s Central Committee of Child Welfare Experts.

In his roles as both Head of Legal Affairs and Senior Lecturer, Morten Nornild has focused on capacity-building for Greenland’s legal workforce, and for a number of years, in his capacity as Head of Legal Affairs, he has recruited and professionally developed some of the country’s own finest lawyers.
