Social Summit II strengthens communities and international relations

Over 40 presentations on the welfare society attracted 150 participants to Social Summit II last week.

Ilisimatusarfik's Center for Arctic Welfare (ICAW) has just hosted Social Summit II, which continues the tradition of social science conferences started by Perorsaanermik Ilinniarfik and Kofoed School in 2021.

Under the heading "Strong communities", Social Summit II has marked itself as an international social research conference where communication was paramount - and with ample opportunities to exchange knowledge between practice and research.

The conference featured 10 different sessions and more than 40 presentations covering welfare topics such as: social policy, pedagogy, school, child and youth welfare, homelessness, disability, crime and social vulnerability.

Notable presentations included keynotes from Professor Cindy Blackstock and Professor Suzy Basile - both from Canada. They spoke respectively about the importance of listening and involving children in welfare work, and the Canadian experience of researching involuntary sterilization of Indigenous women.

ICAW is already working towards the Social Summit III being held in November 2025 with a focus on a commitment to advancing knowledge, collaboration and innovation in the social field. Information about participation and registration will, as this year, be available well in advance in the newspaper and on social media, as well as on Ilisimatusarfik's and ICAW's website.
